Recently I have been seeing an article float around explaining why a person and their family do not get portraits done. They went on explaining that they just have no use for the images and don't feel like hanging them up on the walls.
I am going to be completely honest.... I have NOTHING hung up on my walls because we live in an apartment and I am waiting until we have a house to go crazy with all the images I have captured. But you bet as soon as we have the space, I will be hanging family photos up.
It is easy in today's times to lose sight of how special portraits are with your family. Everything is so digital and most photos are taken with phones. A lot of families forget to spoil themselves with a fun portrait session! When you have a session done, I think it is important to go for a more candid style. You want those images that are genuine and special. Images that you can't normally catch with all of you together. I think if you find a photographer with a unique style and eye for catching candid one-in-a-lifetime moments, it is SO WORTH getting portraits done. Nothing can beat the quality of a professional photographer. Not even these new fancy phones coming out. Because let's face it... most of your photos are selfies or they are missing someone in the images. I can not tell you how many times a client said thank you to me for catching such candid moments. Stating that they were so special and would have never had them if they didn't book a session!
When you hire a photographer, make it an adventure! Get the whole family together for a little reunion and have you all get pictures taken. Have Grandma with all the grandchildren smiling and laughing. There will be a time you will cherish those images, I promise. Even if you never print them, you can always share them on social media, save them on your phone, and have prints made to send the older generation family members who love scrapbooking. If you find the right photographer, it will be worth the adventure!
